Getting Rid of That Bump on Your Nose

A hump or bump on the nose, which many patients would like fixed, relates to a dorsum that is too high. (bridge of the nose or upper third of the nose) When the dorsum is high relative to the rest of the nose, the dorsal line (line from the bridge of the nose to the tip) is not straight which is unpleasing in profile. More pertinently, patients don’t like it because they intuitively know that the upper part of the nose is out of balance to the lower part of the nose…it looks too big and thick.
Hump or bump reduction of the nose is one of the most frequently requested reasons that patients want rhinoplasty surgery. Removing a nasal hump often involves more than just trimming down the bone. What makes up most humps of the nose is a combination of bone and cartilage as the hump occurs where the bone of the nose stops and the cartilage of the nose begins. This may seem like a trivial anatomic point but reducing this area involves removing both. Doing so requires a special instrument that levels out the hump but often leaves a flat plateau across the bridge of the nose, known in plastic surgery as an ‘open roof’ deformity. This is because the bridge of the nose is like the roof line on your house. Trimming off the apex of your roof line will leave the sides of the roof standing where they originally were….with an open top. To make that open roof close down again and remake a narrow bridge, the sides of the roof must be cut low so they will fall back in together. This is exactly what osteotomizing the nasal bones does, also known as ‘breaking or cutting the nose bones’. It is also the rhinoplasty maneuver that may leave you with blacks eyes after. The nasal bones are cut down low and then pushed in to close the open roof.
Not every rhinoplasty requires breaking the bones even if there is a hump. Small humps may be able to be filed or rasped down which will cause no bruising under the eyes after surgery. For this to be effective, the hump on the nose be fairly small being no more than 1 to 2 mms high.

Liposuction pills are the latest buzzword when it comes to weight loss aides; it is just that not much is known about this method of weight loss….. Not everyone is blessed with the perfectly shaped and toned body and well sculpted facial features, which is when people tend to resort to means like using liposuction pills. Even the strictest of exercise and gym training at times may not be able to set right a flaw in the body; neither would the best planned out diet nor the most expensive dietician on earth help. Many a time, things do get out of hands and it is in situations like this that people resort to methods like liposuction or tummy tuck to get rid of localized areas of excess flab. (Here we are ignoring the lethargic few who simply don’t want to sweat it out for a perfect ten.)
One perfect instance of the need for artificial procedures to remove excess fat deposits is after pregnancy in women. Disease conditions are another common reason why one may need to resort to surgery to remove surplus fat deposits under the skin; a spinal injury for instance would restrict the extent to which one can work out on the abdominal area to get rid of fat there. Obese persons who lose a lot of weight (over 100 pounds) in short spans of time often have to deal with folds of lose skin all over. The simplest solution to each of these conditions and more is surgical correction or else the use of liposuction pills. While liposuction is a lot less complicated as compared to the surgery involved in a tummy tuck or even a minituck, sometimes in order to achieve the best results a combination of both may be required.
Setting aside all of these modes and opting for something that will be a lot less expensive (though it may not be so in the long run), people resort to various devices that claim to reduce weight with little or no exertion required by them. This seldom is effective and is usually meant to rip off the gullible few who are willing to risk some of their hard earned money. The other option is to use medications to the likes of liposuction pills. If you’re wondering what this term means, as the name suggests, these are expected to have the same results as a liposuction surgery. The only difference would be the less drastic impact owing to the small doses in which the ingredients reach the fat deposits as against direct application to the target area in a liposuction session. Just like a fluid mixed with anesthetic is used to flush fat deposits out from under the skin, there are researchers who are currently working on creating a liposuction pill that will completely cut off the supply of blood to the adipose tissue, thereby causing them to disintegrate. This technique however is currently only in its formative phase and is yet to be made available to the eagerly awaiting masses.

What is the Meaning of Moles on the Face?

Colored spots on the face can be moles or may be something more sinister. Determining exactly what a spot is absolutely requires examination by a qualified physician and possibly even biopsy of the lesion. This article is meant to describe different lesions which can appear on the face, not to provide diagnosis of any lesion.
What is the meaning of moles on the face?
Some spots on the face have been present since birth and pose no threat. These spots are termed congenital nevi and have no potential to become cancerous. They may grow over the course of a lifetime but they are not deadly. Unfortunately, some spots on the face represent skin cancer, the most deadly of which is melanoma. To consider if a mole is worrisome for melanoma, some basic guidelines have been established to help determine if further diagnosis or treatment is necessary. These have obtained the pneumonic ABCDE.
Assymetry – moles which are not the same on both sides, in other words are not a mirror image of one side to the other, are worrisome.
Borders – if the mole has irregular borders, this can be a worrisome sign
Color – if the mole has many colors in it. A mole which is black is not necessarily bad. If the mole though has black, brown, white, and different shades of these colors in it, that can be worrisome.
Diameter – worrisome are moles which are greater than 6mm in diameter.
Elevation/Evolution – a mole which is growing in size or has different elevations above the level of the skin should be evaluated.
While these rules can be applied to melanoma, other types of skin cancers can often be seen as moles. The two most common types of skin cancer are basal cell cancer and squamous cell cancer. The biggest risk factor for any of these is ultraviolet radiation exposure – either from sun or tanning beds. There are many other risks factors which are beyond the scope of this article. If a mole is changing in size, color, or shape; an unusual growth appears on the skin; you notice a color change on your skin; or you have a sore which won’t heal, evaluation by a trained physician with possible biopsy is definitely warranted.
I want to know how to get rid of moles?
The removal of moles depends on exactly what they are. Fortunately, not all moles are cancerous. For moles which are not cancerous, conservative measures can be used to remove unsightly moles for cosmetic reasons. Shaving the skin, clipping the moles, freezing the moles, and some topical medications can be used to remove moles. If the diagnosis of a mole is in question, any biopsy should be sent for pathologic examination. For lesions which proved to be cancerous, more aggressive treatment is necessary. In some cases, radiation therapy and/or chemotherapy may be necessary in addition to surgery to provide the best chance of cure.
If you have a question about the meaning of moles on the face or anywhere on the body, you should consult an experienced physician. It may be necessary to visit a dermatology and even undergo a biopsy of the mole to determine exactly what it is. The key to survival is early diagnosis.
